Am I Blessed or Unfortunate?

Am I blessed or unfortunate to grow up in the era I have? I feel that at heart and deep in my soul I am a 60’s baby, totally hippie and all about the rock and roll. I get pissed because today’s rock and roll is nothing of the same, even the concerts aren’t the same. You don’t experience music the same anymore and it’s because the music isn’t the same. But am I blessed? I mean I didn’t know everyone rolling stones song growing up so I discover them slowly as I do get older; in restaurants, iTunes, friends, parents etc. I just recently discovered Rolling Stones – Beast of Burden and I wonder “how did I ever live without this song?” but its spectacular when I find a new song, instead of having the whole album in front of me or the radio playing it out so I end up hating it, I have new favorite and there is endless amount of new favorites for me to find for years to come.

But the problem that this creates is that I find myself attracted to the older generations, okay not the 70’s generation but definitely generations 10 years older than me. And I meet a guy and I flirt and he flirts and then I think “oh no, he probably doesn’t know I’m 20, he’s 30. Is that okay? Is it okay not to tell him?” I mean a lot of time in society flirting is construed as politeness and there is the breed of people called the “natural flirt” which I certainly am, im sure I’ve flirted with some 80 year old men unconsciously so I don’t want to just say “hey by the way I’m 20 years old and now you’re a pervert because you’ve been flirting with a child.” LOL I mean how awkward! It’s not like I’m dating these guys, but seriously.

I think I was officially born as a 60’s baby and just hung out in my momma’s womb for 30 years or so, because besides the new technology I would have been rocking in the 1960’s. My birthdate is not 1989. Thank goodness I made the 80’s I would die if I wear a 90’s baby.

  1. LOL re: Beast of Burden.
If you are a true hippie then you have to listen to Joni Mitchell and get back to me on what you like about her.

Start with "Case of You". ;)

  2. i've never liked Joni Mitchell. she is not rock and roll though! what are you talking about? she is so slow, dull and boring and she doesnt even really have a good voice, she kind of sounds like a man. hahaa.

  3. you are talking about being hippie. that means you should take a listen to Joni Mitchell. She's been my favorite for years and years. there is no way she sounds like a man. Are you thinking of Tracy Chapman?
I'm gonna send you a cd of Joni with lyrics included.

  5. if you do not like Joni, then you have to quit calling yourself a hippie and born in the wrong generation! Look at her lyrics sometime.

  6. "Case of You"

Just before our love got lost you said,
"I am as constant as a northern star."
And I said, "Constantly in the darkness
    Where's that at?
If you want me I'll be in the bar."
On the back of a cartoon coaster
In the blue TV screen light
I drew a map of Canada
    Oh Canada
With your face sketched on it twice
Oh, you're in my blood like holy wine
You taste so bitter and so sweet
Oh I could drink a case of you, darling
And I would still be on my feet
Oh I would still be on my feet

Oh I am a lonely painter
I live in a box of paints
    I'm frightened by the devil
And I'm drawn to those ones that ain't afraid
I remember that time you told me, you said,
    "Love is touching souls"
    Surely you touched mine
'Cause part of you pours out of me
In these lines from time to time
Oh, you're in my blood like holy wine
You taste so bitter and so sweet
Oh I could drink a case of you, darling
Still, I'd be on my feet
I would still be on my feet

    I met a woman
She had a mouth like yours
    She knew your life
She knew your devils and your deeds
    And she said,
"Go to him, stay with him if you can
    But be prepared to bleed"
Oh but you are in my blood
    You're my holy wine
You're so bitter, bitter and so sweet
Oh, I could drink a case of you, darling
Still I'd be on my feet
I would still be on my feet

    (this is my favorite.)

"Go to him, stay with him if you can

(and this one too, because it reminds me of my second ex-marriage.)

  8. lyrics are sometimes different than the song though. shes good a song writer, not a good singer. everything sounds so depressing and dark.

since when was joni mitchell a hippie person? ive never heard that relation. shes kinda sappy.

  9. Joni Mitchell did not attend Woodstock, but she wrote a song about it. And she looked and appeared to be hippie. I think it qualifies her. What would qualify you???????????

  10. rock and roll. someone who would have played woodstock! lol

  11. then by that definition Joni is definitely a hippie. You should also listen to the Grateful Dead.

  12. Someone(s)- not hardly rock&roll who DID play Woodstock:
    Joan Baez
    Arlo Guthrie
    The Band
    Crosby, Stills & Nash

All of these folks, like Joni Mitchell, were an intrinsic part of the musical life of real hippies back in the day. Mellow. Laid back.

Rock and roll was only a part.

You must first open your heart to the soul of the movement, if you truly wish to claim it.

    Peace.

  13. well thats why i call myself 'modern hippie' i dont adapt to the whole 50's hippie era, i dont smoke weed and i like high fashion. but im against war, i love the idea of peace, im big on being green (which is a modern thing)in political, i like fighting for what i believe in, i would fight the man if there was a man... and i like rock and roll. haha.

    i'm an adapted hippie. : )

    ReplyDelete
  14. well i guess there is a man, we just fight "him" in a different way, and i do my part for that : )

and typo. i meant to say "i'm political."

    :)

  15. Kylee, being green isn't modern.... we used to be green back in the 1970s. you know the word 'ecology' right? We used that word alot back then. Also Earth Day was back in the 70's and then we didn't do anything about it for awhile. But speaking of my favorite folk singer (besides Dylan) Joni Mitchell sings that song Big Yellow Taxi, you should know it cause it's been redone by Counting Crows recently....
"They paved paradise and put up a parking lot." "Farmer farmer, put away the DDT now."

    ReplyDelete
  16. well i mean the term of "being green" was coined more modernly. being recycle obsessive and reduce, reuse, recycle. its definitley a different kind of being green. dont you agree?

i do love dylan! LOVE dylan. today tomorrow and forever! haha

well like i said i dont have a thing against Joni's lyrics, i have a thing against her sound and her voice. shes a fabulous songwriter i just dont like the sound.

which is why i like the counting crows remake. i love the counting crows...for their sound.

  17. new rule: you can't call yourself a hippie and not love Joni. Big Yellow Taxi was one of the coolest ecology songs ever.

  18. grr your missing the point of my newly development definition of a hippie. a modern day hippie. i take parts of the old hippie and mix them with modern day. so if i dont want to like Joni's sound. i shall not like it.

    ReplyDelete
  19. you are a freaking stubborn little cuss, which also makes you unsuitable for being a hippie, who are easy going, free loving, open minded, laid back, live and let live kind of folks.

    ReplyDelete
  20. your missing the point! im not a 50s hippie! haha

    ReplyDelete
  21. "so if I dont want to like Joni's sound I shall not like it" bwahhahahhahha - yall 2 crack me up!!

I always liked 80's and below rock the best. I cant do heavy-metal and headbanger stuff. I love Joni M but I am old hippie enough to say 'to each their own' (How bout Brandi Carlile??)

I do see Kylee as a modern-day hippie. You are a breath of fresh air!

But oh you just gotta lock your door! (please!!)
    :)
